Michaela Sangl
Michaela is one of Aotearoa's most experienced children's yoga teachers. As founder of Yogi Kids Professional Development, she is passionate about sharing her in-depth knowledge of creative yoga and mindfulness tools with educators, yoga teachers, practitioners and caregivers.
Michaela is a level 4 senior teacher registered with Yoga New Zealand and a qualified 95hr Children’s and Teens Yoga Teacher (US Yoga Alliance). She is also a 200-hour Yoga instructor (Contemporary Yoga Centre, NZ) running Vinyasa Yoga Flow classes for adults. Michaela has also completed trainings with Samadhi Family Yoga, with Rainbow Yoga Australia in both Children’s Yoga and Partner Yoga, and studied Yin Immersion.
Since 2012, Michaela has taught children's, family and teen yoga around Auckland - at studios, schools and preschools, for organisations including Save the Children, and at festivals such as Womad, Wanderlust, Prana and the International Yoga Festival. She has shared yoga with children at Ronald McDonald House every week since 2017 (moving to Zoom during the pandemic!). Since 2015, Michaela has facilitated in-house PLD workshops for ECEs around New Zealand, including Kindercare and Bear Park, and in 2019, she launched her 50-hour Certification Teacher Training.
Prior to pursuing her passion for yoga, Michaela gained an honours degree in architecture, won the NZ Institute of Architects Award, and received a DAAD post-graduate scholarship to study theatrical space and set design at the Fine Arts University (UdK), Berlin. With a background in dance, singing and acting, she also worked as a singer-songwriter, performer and recording artist in Berlin.
Michaela has also sung with the NZ Opera. She has published 20 children’s books internationally as an illustrator and is fluent in German and Italian. All of which have meant she needs to do a daily down dog! Her greatest joy: being mum to Isla, b. 2004
